It’s that weird day of the year again. That strange “holiday” where we FINALLY get a chance to extravagantly shower love and devotion on those that we care about most. Phew! Thank goodness someone thought to carve out one whole day of the year to do this! Otherwise, when would it get done?!
(Pro life tip: You don’t need a holiday to do this… it can literally be done at any day of the year. Or even better, you can sprinkle a little of that dramatic effort into every day of the year!).
As is my yearly custom on this sad excuse for a holiday: I have made y’all a mix! (Hey, it’s what I do!).
Not so much ooey-gooey love songs… but heart songs. Cause that blind, maddening, all-encompassing, shout-it-from-the-rooftops kind of romantic love is really a very small percentage of what makes up the life and times of the human heart.
Hearts are messy. They rarely do what we want them to do. They rarely feel what we want them to feel. We get bursts of brilliant love in between the beats from time to time. But far more often we get a restless heart. Or a half-broke heart. Or a heart continually on the mend. Or a winter-cold heart. Or an infuriatingly-unsure heart. Or a seemingly-artificial-mostly-mechanical heart. Or a heart on the attack. Or a quiet-leave-me-alone heart. Or a great-big-Goddamn heart.
Give me a holiday that lets us celebrate all of this and I’ll be all in on it!
