12. Treading Water

She said, “I’m standing in a pay booth right outside the McDonald’s drive thru” / And I could tell by the sound in her eyes that she didn’t step out for food / She said, “Have you ever felt like the world’s gonna come right down atop your head / It may leave you half alive but I’ve been feeling just mostly dead”

I just tried to smile and nod cause you never really know / You can’t see through another’s eyes and you’ll never walk in their shoes / I know we’re all depraved all reaching out a hand just to be saved but / We each take a different road just to get us in that state so it’s a little hard to relate

When she says, “have you ever felt this way / Like it could all be gone today / You watch this whole world just melt away / And that’d be okay . . .”

I’ll admit I spent 20 years just getting on my feet / How was I to know I needed to go just right back down on my knees / You get so far gone you get so far wrong and it’s so hard to believe / Can’t even tell myself that I need what I need
