14. So Much More She’s halfway down the avenue / And there’s half a chance that she’ll make it through / As five o’clock traffic rolls on and on and on / A few more dollars made for another day gone
And the tears will roll around midnight / Her fears are found in the faint light / She tells herself it’s all under control / That will ease a mind – never satisfy a soul
When it says, “Well I’m so scared that this is it / You get one chance and I missed it / All these regrets I can’t forget / My past keeps showing up in my present
My heart keeps getting weighed down to the floor / And I know that’s not what it was designed for / If I was meant to become just bitter and bored / Why can’t I shake this feeling that there must be / There must be so much more”
And she figures grace is just a fairy tale / It’s a great idea but it’s bound to fail / So she tries her best to be the best she can / Still everything inside is dreaming up a better plan
And she says, “Well I’m so scared that this is it / You get one chance and I blew it / All these regrets I can’t forget / My past keeps showing up in my present
My heart keeps getting weighed down to the floor / And I know that’s not what it was designed for / If I was meant to become just bitter and bored / Why can’t I shake this feeling that there must be / There must be so much more”
She looks her doubts right in the eye / And she says, “If one of us is ever gonna live one of us has got to die / And if someone came along and offered me a chance at life / Well, wouldn’t I play the fool not to let them try / Just to be satisfied?”
She’s halfway down the avenue / And there’s half a chance that she’ll make it through / Her mind is wandering to a world of grace |
